Cam Skattebo is a New York Giant

Everybody loves a good underdog story to root for. Former Arizona State running back, Cam Skattebo, made his childhood dream of being an NFL player come true. Skattebo was selected in the fourth round by the New York Giants with the 105th pick.

Skattebo made a name for himself during his last season with the Sun Devils by being the main cog in the wheel for an Arizona State team that made its way into the 2024 College Football Playoff.

Cam Skattebo nickname:

From a young age Skattebo was a person who had many different nicknames for himself. Each one of the nicknames he earned. One of the nicknames Cam Skattebo has gone by is Houdini. At a very early age Skattebo was able to escape his carseat with relative ease, so his parents came up with the Houdini nickname. When you watch Cam perform on the football field like I have he would escape tackles like Houdini. There were multiple times when it seems like he had nowhere to go on the fieled, but he pops out from the pile of would be tacklers. He would often turn a moderate gain into a big gain or a touchdown. If you look at his game tape you’ll find what I am talking about.

Cam Skattebo as a player:

Cam Skattebo has played the game of football like his life has depended on it. Skattebo is a no non-sense type of football player. His head coach, Kenny Dillingham, often referred to “Skat” as a player who is going to do whatever it takes to be successful. Whether that is running the ball or catching the ball. Skattebo is a rugged, physical running back that the fans of the New York Giants are going to enjoy watching. New York fans will appreciate his dedication to the game.The fans will also enjoy his willingness to do what it takes to win a football game.

Cam Skattebo’s physicality:

When I have asked scouts about what they like with Skattebo it’s all the same. Scouts like how he is physical, a down hill runner, and that he has a bit of elusiveness to his game. The one part of Cam Skattebo’s game that people forget is his center of gravity. Skattebo is not a big guy. He’s 5’9″, 219 pounds. Linebackers and defensive backs have to get low to bring him down. Getting low to tackle somebody like Skattebo is a daunting task. By the time defensive players put themselves low enough Skattebo is delivering a crushing blow. Cam Skattebo is a player who looks for contact. He doesn’t shy away from contact at all. For example, Skattebo had 1,202 yards after contact this past year. This tells everyone that Skattebo is a tough guy to bring to the ground.

Expectations for Cam Skattebo:

The expectations for Cam Skattebo that the Giants have for him won’t be higher than what Skat will have for himself. However, Skattebo will be a guy that will make his mark on special teams to begin with. Skattebo is a guy that will do anything to get on the field, but he’s not going to comprise his game to do so. Cam Skattebo knows the type of player he is. He knows what will make him successful, however, he is one of the most coachable players I’ve seen at the college level.

At the end of the day, the New York Giants got themselves a diamond in the rough. Through coaching that diamond will get polished up, but the fans will love what they have in Cam Skattebo.
