NFL Week 1 Overreaction
NFL Week 1 is in the books, so let the overreaction to each week begin. Fans, pundits, and other media enjoy coming with a hot take after each week to gain views and clicks. I’ll try and give some takes that are reasonable and measured each week.
First of all, the Sunday night game between the Buffalo Bills and Baltimore Ravens turned out to be a game that actually lived up to the hype. The phenomenal comeback from the Bills was something to behold. I’ll admit, once the Ravens got up by 15 I was considering turning the television off and heading to bed. However, Josh Allen, the reigning NFL MVP, was still part of the game. We all know what happened in the last five minutes of the game, so I don’t need to get into that.
With the win the Bills helped themselves possibly get the top seed in the playoffs. I still think Baltimore is a team to be reckoned with later in the season. Outside of a catastrophic injuries to the Bills they should be looked at as the front runner in the AFC.
Secondly, don’t lose faith in the Ravens. I know people are saying “The Ravens can’t win the big one”, but they certainly have the talent to do just that. Did the Ravens blow this game? Absolutely. However, when you have Lamar Jackson, Derrick Henry, and Mark Andrews you will always have a shot at the Super Bowl. Baltimore should win the AFC North this season. Winning the Super Bowl takes talent, avoiding injury, and a bit of luck. The Ravens can only control what they do. They can’t control what Kansas City or Buffalo does. It’s a bit early to say the Ravens are out of it.
Lastly, this is only the first week of the NFL, so we have to let things breathe a little bit. Some of the teams looked great. Others looked like they may look good in CFL. At the end of the day, we do not know what will happen. We can pontificate and bloviate all we want, but we really don’t how all this will work itself out. The best plan moving forward is to make sure your refrigerator is stocked up, your BBQ grill is ready to go, and that your NFL Ticket package is paid up and ready to use. Enjoy the show everyone.
