Sun Devil Football Expectations for 2025
For the first time in a long time there are actually high expectations at Arizona State. After being picked to finish last in the Big 12 the Sun Devil football shocked everyone by winning the Big 12 Championship. Losing to Texas in the College Football Playoff in a close game was a heartbreaking end to a dream season.
The reason for the high expectations in my opinion is head coach Kenny Dillingham. Coach Dillingham mentioned from day one that it’s about building a culture. Getting players that just love to play football, that hold each accountable, and want to put in the work to be great.
Sun Devil Football 2025
When Dillingham was asked about that first meeting when the team was getting prepared to train for the 2025 season. His answer was simple and to the point.
“It’s over. You had your time to celebrate, party. You had your time where people told how good you were. I showed them all the tweets about how people were saying, ‘you’re great, you’re this or that.” Dillingham said.

The expectations for Sun Devil quarterback, Sam Leavitt, are through the roof. There is some preseason Heisman hype for Leavitt. Which is to be expected for a guy that lead the team to the College Football Playoff in his first season starting. There are NFL rumblings for Sam Leavitt, but he wasn’t having any of that when he was asked.
“I have to play this season first before anything. The focus is this season and nothing else. If I were to think about the NFL I would be cheating my coaches, teammates, and especially myself.” said Leavitt.
Leavitt spent part of season at the Manning Academy working on his footwork and other fundamentals.
“Having Peyton Manning give you pointers and advice on how to be a better player was amazing. It’s something I took in personally. His advice will make me a better player and person.” Leavitt said.
Jordyn Tyson
Over the course of the 2024 season Leavitt developed chemistry with Sun Devil wide receiver Jordyn Tyson. Tyson had 75 receptions, 1,101 receiving yards, 10 TD’s, and had an average of 14.7 yards/reception. Jordyn Tyson was the guy that Sam Leavitt looked for during the game. The season ended early for Tyson. Late in the game against rival Arizona Tyson separated his shoulder. Tyson missed the playoff game against Texas. You certainly can make the argument that if Tyson was healthy to play against Texas the outcome may have been different, but we’ll never know unfortunately.
Replacing Cam Skattebo
The straw that stirred the drink for the Sun Devils last season was Cam Skettebo. Hands down. Replacing a Sun Devil legend is going to be tough task for Coach Dillingham. However, there are going to be some choices for the team.
Army transfer, Kanye Udoh has garnered a lot of talk in Tempe, but Kyson Brown and Raleek Brown will also be sharing the running back load for the Devils. Most people tend to think the Udoh will be the workhorse for the program, but Kyson and Raleek will be in the games to give a different look and skill set. The success of keeping the offense balanced, so defenses just don’t focus on Jordyn Tyson will be crucial.
With all this being said Sun Devil football will contend for the Big 12 Championship again in 2025. There is to much talent in Tempe to not be successful outside of big injuries. The floor for this team is 8-4, but realistically the ceiling is 12-0.
